Tholu Bommalata – Leather Puppetry

Leather shadow puppetry Tholu Bommalata, (Tholu – leather, Bommalata – puppet dance) of Andhra Pradesh .

With its stunning colours and drawing techniques, Leather shadow puppets are one of my favourite Indian Art forms.

Madhavapatnam, regions in the Nellore and Anantapur district and Narasaraopet in Guntur district are the main centers for leather puppets.

Done originally on deer skin it is now practiced extensively on goat skin.
